Visitors’ first impressions are made while driving up to your home. A guest’s first steps out of a vehicle are where they first experience your hardscape. Driveways help to set the tone for a memorable occasion.
Stone
The installation of stone is vital for the “Cape Cod look”. Stone drains well, and comes in various colors and sizes from pea stone up to 1½” diameter. Textures range from native round or crushed, increasing the appeal. A popular choice is ¾” native round stone for a very natural look.
Shell
The look of crushed hard-shell quahogs is quintessential Cape Cod. The attractive shells make you feel like you’re at the beach. The shells crush up more as they are driven on -- and look better as time goes by. Mixing the shell with stone is also very attractive. (When first spread, the shells may have an “ocean odor,” but this soon passes.)
Exposed Aggregate
Exposed aggregate is a driveway (or a patios or pool deck) constructed with the same preparation as stone or shell driveways, but the surface layer is a concrete pad. Stone is then exposed on the surface. The ¾” stone can also be mixed with other materials as beach glass for beautiful effects.
